The RUBBINGzone is an international social network that is a point of encounter and contrast for anyone who has practiced, practices and will practice RUBBINGthings
Always remembering that it is a work in progress and apt to change as information is gathered and assessed.
In a cultural context, the dynamics at play within ‘an action’ carries a story(ies?), it leaves marks, it sets up reactions and by doing so, it can simultaneously expose, generate and transmit meaning – even draw upon memories.
Likewise, actions, the conditions that shape them and the cultural realities they happen within have subtexts and may even carry latent cultural cargo – and oftentimes, chance metaphors relative to time, place and more.
An exploration of an action – making, marking, rubbing, giving, taking, stealing, using, exchanging – and its/their reactions in the context of it being ordinary yet laden with cultural narratives and meanings, together offer possibilities to think about 'an object’, its histories and the actions and reactions that brought it into being, in new ways.
A RUBBING ZONE may be such a ‘place’ from which to embark upon a journey into fresh territory.
The RUBBINGzone is essentially interested in the notion that it may be possible for a robot to make ‘ART’. We have a ROBOT (a CNC router) and we know that it can make buildings, or at least bits of them but can it make art or even assist in artmaking? We shall see!
